Round 2 for Kayla!

Round 2 for University of Tampa. I LOVE that campus. It gives some of the most beautiful backgrounds. Our subjects for today were Kayla & Jake, seniors of local Hillsborough schools. It's funny how this worked out. Back in August or September, Kayla, a student from my psychology class, said that she wanted me to do her prom pictures... Months later, in May, she actually remembered saying that & wanted to book a session. We went to her family's home & did photos of her and her date. After that, they booked a graduation session. I enjoyed being able to walk around the UT campus & photograph such special moments with their family.

We chose the University of Tampa because starting this fall, Kayla will be a Spartan :)

The whole gang came out to support the graduates!

Don't worry girls, she'll only be 30 minutes from home!

Class of 2011

What a day! I was able to finish off the evening with a graduation shoot at the University of Tampa. The subjects of this shoot were Sarah (a student of mine) and her friend, Kayleigh. I enjoyed walking through parts of the campus & using it to create fun graduation shots!

We started this session with a duo-pose with one of my favorite backgrounds- brick!

We also spent some time taking individual shots. Sarah.

Kayleigh.

Finally. They can jump for joy because their day finally came. Class of 2011!

A Morning with the Teeden Family

Today I had the opportunity to hang out with the Teeden Family. I guess I'm becoming a bit of a regular at Simmons Park, because it's the third shoot there in a month :)

We started our adventure off with a family shot- hoping to catch some of the beautiful water in the background. Mission accomplished!

Poor Logan has such sensitive eyes. So the boys spent a lot of time encouraging him. Mom was ready for the shot though! :)

After a short shade break, Logan seemed refreshed.

Alrighty, we made it to the playground!!

Tyler was all smiles coming down the slide!

Logan appears to be in deep thought while swinging

Momma's time for a photo with her precious Tyler

Mom & Dad sneak away for their own shot. Happy 10 Year Anniversary!!

We ended with one last family shot. They are in GATOR colors, but the photo is in black & white, opps!!

Simmons Park

I was blessed to spend some time Saturday morning hanging out at Simmons Park on Apollo Beach getting to know the family of a co-worker & photograph their children.

Little Gracie was so intrigued by this big honking piece of metal staring at her... So intrigued, that she gave beautiful eye contact :)

The Rodriguez Children. One of the coolest things I noticed was how many times Kelly went into this pose- leaning on her big brother. So sweet.

Bryce's First Birthday Party

Terrena, a co-worker of mine, allowed me to photograph her son's 1st birthday party! It was a great time & we were able to capture some happy times with close family & friends.

The Birthday Boy, Bryce, really enjoyed his cake. He was probably one of the funniest 1 year olds to watch eat. He actually has a hand print on his face... which happened within about 10 seconds!

He turned One Year!

Her eyes are captivating.

As are his.

Amazon Calling...

For many of us, it is hard to really understand what this world is. Since I teach social studies, I am constantly challenged to ponder that idea. The differences among societies and people groups, how our view on life differs and so on. I realize that this world I know-- is not the same for everyone.

For whatever reason, the Lord convicts me of this. Really, it's not for "whatever" reason. It's because the bible instructs us to be in the world, but not of the world. On Sunday, Pastor Craig mentioned that...

Even though part of me is ready to just pick up, travel, and share with others about the Lord... I have a purpose here in Tampa (or maybe I'm a coward). This summer, the Lord is giving me a taste with the mission trip to the Amazon River! I'm super excited that the Lord is allowing me... a flawed follower of his, to experience another land. To be able to just share. Talk about life. And rejoice in the salvation we have from the Lord. It is truly an honor that the Lord chooses to use me for any purpose of his...

I need to raise $2000 in one month!? Hard for me to wrap my mind around. BUT I have a faithful God. To help raise money for the Amazon trip, I am doing photos for donations. People can get an hour photo session and receive a cd of all edited photos for any donation above $50. By taking this option, clients will receive quality photos, ridiculously low price & will help with an eternal cause.

A Wonderful Way to Being 2011

Like any photographer, I love being able to hang out with people and catch that moment on their face... that moment where a picture truly says more than a thousand words. Below are some photos that I was privileged to take over this past year.

Below are two of the three Schneider children. I've known these kiddos since they were toddlers & babies. I've been able to photograph them 3 times over the past year. This is just a glimpse of their sweet hearts.

The third Schneider :)

So sweet!

Cassie, April & I walked the streets of Ybor City & took photos along the way. I had a great time hanging out with these girls!

Cheryl & Daniel. Truly meant for one another :) They had the most beautiful wedding. I'm glad to call them friends!

Precious Baby

What a beautiful baby girl! I asked her momma if we could do a photoshoot to help build my portfolio. I've had a decent amount of experience photographing children 1+. But I wanted to get some experience with her age. We went to Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa to do a photoshoot of this sweet girl. I've used Curtis Hixon for teens & adults- it gives a nice edgy look with downtown in background. Thankfulfully, it also yields a beautiful background for the younger ones as well :)

Our talents come from the Lord

I am so thankful to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. My reasons for being thankful are mostly selfish- I guess that is because it's all I know... I know where the Lord has taken me from, how He has changed me, what He has blessed me with & most importantly- His ultimate sacrifice.

Growing up, I had a strong dislike for school. It's ironic that the Lord has given me a talent to teach high school! It surely attests to the power of the Lord in my life.

I've always loved taking pictures- but I certainly had NO talent. I did not have the "eye". Two years ago, the Lord chose to give me that talent. I am assured that talent comes from the Lord, because out of no where, I suddenly had knowledge & understanding in taking good photos! I praise the Lord for this as He has allowed me to use it to raise support for the DR mission trip last summer & for the Amazon River mission trip this summer.

Saved by Grace

If you really want to know more about me, fasten your seatbelt. I warn you that this entry is about how I have been changed. How I went from someone that could barely smile- to someone that loves life! And it is all because of love, the Love of Jesus.

I spent the majority of my life going to church every Sunday and taking CCD classes during the school year. When I went off to college, I became an Easter and Christmas church goer. Within two years, even that disappeared... while a sense of guilt grew. Shortly after the idea of church and God faded, I met Matt and Shanna- the "Christian College" kids (co-workers at Old Navy). Matt started inviting me to church- it intrigued me... they enjoyed going to church? they felt close to God? So I started going with them.

For a good two years, God began breaking down the walls of my heart and showing me more about Jesus. I found so much head knowledge of Christianity. Although I met a lot of great people, and read my bible frequently, I felt unfulfilled. I constantly questioned whether I would truly go to heaven. Even after praying the "prayer" over and over... I was not assured of my salvation.

In the spring of 2003, a life of freedom began. I went on a spring break trip with a Campus Crusade group on my campus. During the first day there I saw all of these college students in love with Jesus. I remember sitting in on conversations, just listening to the excitement people felt for God. It blew my mind. One of the girls on the trip asked me a question about what Jesus had done to change me... I remember sitting there. It was then I realized that I did not have a personal relationship with Jesus. Even though I went to church every Sunday and did "good" things, I was not connected to God.

That afternoon, during one of the meetings, they played a portion of the Jesus film. I remember sitting there with tears running down my face. That was it. Jesus really did that. He suffered. He took the beating of those men, allowed them to pierce his hands with nails, and still asked for those men to be forgiven.

That night, I went out to my car. I sat out there for hours, just thinking about everything that happened that day. I saw that God was not just the judge, but a loving father as well. I saw God cares enough about me, to have a personal relationship with me, through His Son, Jesus. That night, it was not praying the prayer that I had been praying for 2 years... instead, the Lord finally took the blinders off my eyes and allowed me to truly commit my life to Him. Ever since then, I have been a changed person. I've most certainly had my ups and downs, but everything I have been through has made me stronger and led me to call upon the Lord for strength. James 1:2-4 Signifies why I give praise in times of trial.

Introvert or Extrovert?

If there was ever an award for "best at reflecting", I'd probably be nominated. For as far back as I can remember, I have been a classic introvert. Quiet, shy & a wallflower... that is, until you get to know me. Once I get to know someone, I become more outgoing. What boggles my mind is that even though I am most certainly an introvert in my personal life- at work I am an extrovert. Maybe it's because I work with teenagers and have to be in control. Over the past two years, I've decided to focus some of my time on photography... I guess that has also forced me out of my comfort zone to embrace the outgoing side as well :)
